Atlantis

Type of beach: Quiet / natural pools
Location: Southwest

The hidden Atlantis! Do you like a challenge to get to a special place? Then Atlantis is totally for you. Near Es Vedra you will find this little beach that can only be reached on foot via a steep descent.

As you begin the hike, you immediately notice why this is a special place, among other things. On top of the mountain you will find circles made up of stacked stones. Once created by hippies, but because of each person who comes by and provides the circle with an extra pebble, they grow by the day. Feel free to add a stone before your descent!

Once down, you will be rewarded with a very unique spot in Ibiza. Indeed, this is the area where the Phoenicians extracted large boulders from the rocks with unknown technology to build the city walls of Ibiza town. This explains the strange rocks you see, reminiscent of sunken buildings in the sea. The Torre des Savinar (the Pirate Tower at Es Vedra) is also made of these rocks, and it remains a mystery to this day how these tons of heavy stones got up the mountain. The carved sections have created a kind of “pools” where, when the sea is calm, you can swim in them. And because the pools are not too deep, they feel almost like a heated pool. Lovely in the slightly colder months!

Bringing plenty of water, refreshments, good footwear and swimwear when visiting Atlantis is a must! These items will give you the ultimate reward feeling once you get here after the hike. And believe us, you deserve that reward! Because well, you have to go up again sometime….
