Ibiza Stad - Ibiza Town

Ibiza City

It was not until the 15th century that Ibiza (also called Eivissa in Catalan) became part of the Spanish kingdom. Before that, the Arabs had been partying on the island for some time, but the Greeks had also been on the island for several centuries before Christ. The Spaniards provided trade in fish, oil, salt and ceramics. As a result, the population grew and Ibiza Town became an increasingly important place. It was not until the 1970s that the island was discovered by vacationers and the island changed rapidly, as did the capital.

Hippies

The hippies came to dance, sing and smoke pot. These people knew how to find each other here. Ibiza had a free culture, was spiritual and a place for many artists. This group still comes to the island and the city, but as we know, the island has become known to a larger group of people and has become the party capital of Europe, and perhaps of the whole world.

Shopping and clubs

But the city has more to offer. There are also nice places around the old part. Shoppers can try their luck as there are plenty of stores. Or go to Marina Botafoc, the city’s port. There are nice restaurants, as well as hip clubs like Lio and a little further on Cipriani. And then go clubbing until the early hours at the Pacha, one of the oldest clubs on the island.

Villas

The most beautiful houses are not always close to the city. They are a little further away, about a 5-10-minute drive from town. Think Villa Deseo, San Juan, Casa Rana Real, or La Casita and Can Ramon Palau with beautiful views of the old town. Playa den Bossa, where there are many bars and discos, has almost no houses, except Bossanova, a nice house for 6 people. Unique in this part of Ibiza! Otherwise, you can go to Sant Jordi, a short drive away.
